J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Tainy & Dua Lipa Join Forces on Transcendental ‘Un Día (One Day)’

J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Tainy & Dua Lipa Join Forces on Transcendental ‘Un Día (One Day)’

J Balvin joins forces with Bad Bunny, Tainy, and pop superstar Dua Lipa for the new single “Un Día (One Day).” Colombia, Puerto Rico, and the U.K. collide on the out-of-this-world collaboration.

“Un Día” was helmed by Marco “Tainy” Masís, one of the power players in reggaetón’s past and present. After producing Justin Bieber’s “Habitual” on his latest album Changes, he continues branching out into pop on this dreamy offering that rides a dembow rhythm. Lipa is no stranger to tropical beats and she sounds at home while calling out for an old flame. “One day you’ll love me again ’til the end,” she laments. J Balvin and Bad Bunny embrace their softer sides as they reiterate Lipa’s pleas in Spanish. There’s no language barriers here. The all-star team beautifully taps into that universal feeling of heartache on this transcendental slice of pop.

The music video for “Un Día” was directed by Stillz, the guy behind drag Bad Bunny in “Yo Perreo Sola.” Spanish actress Úrsula Corberó from Netflix’s La Casa de Papel (or Money Heist) stars in the magical clip. The project was executive produced by Tainy’s NEON16 collective.

“Un Día” marks the second collaboration in a week between Tainy and J Balvin. They visited Bikini Bottom for “Agua,” a song on The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run soundtrack. Tainy, Balvin, and Bad Bunny previously worked together on last year’s Oasis album. “Un Día” is Lipa’s first taste of new music since the release of her comeback album Future Nostalgia.

YouTube Captures Bad Bunny’s Meteoric Rise on New Documentary

YouTube Captures Bad Bunny’s Meteoric Rise on New Documentary

Bad Bunny has teamed up with YouTube for a special documentary on his life. The biggest artist in Latin music right now reflects on his dreams and the wild ride it’s been to get here.

“It feels good to be able to connect with people who don’t speak your language,” says the Puerto Rican rapper in his YouTube Artist Spotlight Story. “And there you can see the power that music has, that art has, that everything I’ve created has.”

Back in 2016, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio was a grocery bagger in Vega Baja, who was starting to record music as Bad Bunny. After appearing as a special guest at Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl halftime show in February, Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, breaking the record for the highest-charting LP mostly in Spanish. Since then, he has become the first reggaetón star to cover Rolling Stone and the second man after Hugh Hefner to cover Playboy solo.

Bad Bunny’s YouTube Artist Spotlight Story captures his meteoric rise to pop stardom with colorful and psychedelic visuals. The documentary also covers how the 26-year-old reggaetonero and Latin trap artist continues to use his massive platform for good. Bad Bunny delves into his decision to wear a shirt honoring murdered trans woman Alexa Negrón Luciano during his late night U.S. television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

As Billboard revealed earlier this month, Bad Bunny is the Latinx artist with the most-consumed music of 2020 so far. To get inside the head of one of the most influential artists on the planet is a real trip worth taking through this excellent YouTube documentary. Next up, Bad Bunny will release the collaborative single “Un Día (One Day)” with J Balvin, Dua Lipa, and Tainy on Thursday.

Selena Tops Billboard’s Vinyl Albums Chart With ‘Ones’ Re-Release

Selena Tops Billboard’s Vinyl Albums Chart With ‘Ones’ Re-Release

Twenty-five years after her tragic death, the late icon Selena continues to break records thanks to her faithful fans. This week, with the success of her greatest hits album Ones, she became the first artist to top Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart with a Latin music album.

“There is a deep connection between Selena’s old and new followers that puts her in a relevant position every time we revisit her music,” said Victor Gonzalez, president of Universal Music Latin Entertainment group, in a statement.

To commemorate 25 years since Selena’s passing in March 1995, her 2002 greatest hits album Ones was re-released on July 3 as a limited edition picture disc. The collection sold 6,000 copies and rose to No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. Included are all her classics like “Amor Prohibido,” “Como La Flor,” and “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” Her few English-language hits are there as well like “Dreaming of You” and “I Could Fall in Love.”

Speaking of her posthumous English crossover, Apple Music is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her last album Dreaming of You that was released on July 18, 1995. A one-hour special will stream on the platform starting today featuring interviews with Selena’s family and collaborators like David Byrne, who worked with her on the song “God’s Child.”

There’s no doubt that Selena’s legacy continues to inspire many of today’s top Latina artists. Apple Music’s Dreaming of You special also includes interviews with Demi Lovato, Becky G, and Karol G on the impact Selena had on their lives. Karol G has a tattoo of Selena on her arm.

As a Mexican-American artist like Selena, who is learning to find her place in the Latin and Anglo music markets, Becky G feels especially connected to her. “As I got older was when I really started to resonate with her,” Becky G says. “Not just through her music, but through her story.”
